2010 Rajgir Assembly elections: BJP’s victory
In 2010, BJP candidate Satyadev Narayan Arya had won. He defeated LJP candidate Dhananjay Kumar. Arya got 50,648 votes while Dhananjay got only 23,697 votes. BJP took a big lead in this election.
2015 Rajgir Assembly elections: JDU returns
In 2015, the equations changed and JDU candidate Ravi Jyoti Kumar won. He defeated BJP’s Satyadev Narayan Arya by 5,390 votes. Ravi got 62,009 votes (41.75%) and Arya got 56,619 votes (38.12%). This time the support of Grand Alliance gave victory to Ravi Jyoti.
2020 Rajgir Assembly Elections: Kaushal Kishore’s victory
The equations changed again in 2020. JDU candidate Kaushal Kishore defeated Congress candidate Ravi Jyoti Kumar by 16,048 votes. Kaushal Kishore got 67,191 votes (42.58%) while Ravi Jyoti had to be content with 51,143 votes (32.41%). LJP’s Manju Devi stood third, getting 11,174 votes.
Caste equations and politics
Rajgir seat is decided by the votes of Dalit, Backward and Most Backward Classes. Due to Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seats, Dalit voters are directly affected. Besides, Yadav, Kurmi and Muslim votes also play an important role in victory or defeat here.
