The State Bank of India (SBI) has informed its customers through the social media platform ‘X’ that its Unified Payment Interface (UPI) services will remain closed for some time on 6 August 2025. The bank has taken this step under maintenance, so that the digital transaction system can be made better and safe.
According to the official statement issued by SBI, UPI will remain closed for only 20 minutes from 1:00 am to 1:20 pm on August 6. During this time customers will not be able to use the main UPI service, but the bank has advised to use UPI lights as an alternative.
What is UPI Lite?
UPI Light is a feature designed for small and quick transactions. The biggest advantage of this facility is that it does not require real-time bank processing, which reduces the chances of failing transaction. You can use it easily in buying grocery items, paying transport fare or small expenses. Another advantage of this is that this feature does not depend on the main UPI network, so the UPI light can still be transacted when the main services are closed.
With UPI light, you can transact up to ₹ 1,000 through UPI light. The total range of UPI Light Wallet is also ₹ 5,000. This means that you can keep up to ₹ 5,000 in this wallet and every time you can do transactions up to ₹ 1,000.
Due to Scheduled Maintenance Activity, SBI UPI Services will be temporarily unavailable from 01:00 hrs to 01:20 hrs on 06.08.2025 (IST). Customers may continue to use UPI Lite Services for Uninterrupted Service. We Regret the increase caused to our customers.

How can UPi Lite use?
If you are SBI customers and want to use UPI light then its process is very easy. You just have to open any UPI app like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm and you have to fill the necessary information by choosing the option of UPI light. Once you choose your SBI account by adding ₹ 500 or ₹ 1,000 and puts UPI PIN, your UPI light will be active. After this, whenever you want, you can add money to UPI light wallet through the same app.
