No matter how many questions have been raised about Rohit Sharma’s career, the former captain of Team India showed in the 3-match series that he can still play long innings. In the last match played in Sydney, Rohit not only scored a brilliant century but also scored the most runs in the series. His performance was also important because Rohit performed like this after coming back after a long break and this break was such that it not only gave Rohit an opportunity to work on himself but also made him realize many important things.

Rohit Sharma played an unbeaten century of 121 runs against Australia in Sydney. Rohit along with Virat Kohli made a partnership of 168 runs and led the team to victory by 9 wickets. Along with this match, Rohit was elected the best player in the series with 202 runs. Rohit made his fans happy by making such a comeback in international cricket after 7 and a half months. But only the former captain can understand the hard work that went into it.

‘Wanted to prepare on my own terms’

After the match, Rohit expressed his feelings about returning to cricket action in a special interview given to BCCI. Talking about the long break, Rohit said that he never got time of 4-5 months for preparations. Rohit said, “I wanted to use it properly. I wanted to prepare on my own terms and in my own style and it proved to be good for me and I understood what I have to do next in my career. I had prepared well.”

‘There is more to life’

Rohit attributed this performance to his preparations and previous experience of playing in Australia. Along with this, the former captain admitted that it is also important to give time to oneself. The 38-year-old star batsman said, “I give credit to the preparation I did before coming here. First of all, I gave myself a lot of time, that was very important because sometimes you have to understand that apart from what you do professionally, there is a lot more to do in life.”

Apart from this, Rohit also mentioned his match-winning partnership with Virat and called it special because there was no century partnership between the two for 5-6 years. Rohit told that due to Gill’s early dismissal and the unavailability of injured Shreyas Iyer, there was a lot of responsibility on both of them and it was not too difficult for them as they understood each other’s game.
