‘Drunk drivers are terrorists’: Hyderabad Police Commissioner after Kurnool bus tragedy

New Delhi: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar made a bold statement, following the Kurnool bus fire tragedy, where 20 people lost their lives. He emphasised the drunk drivers as terrorists after the intoxicated biker prevented a massacre.

Sajjanar stated that ‘Drunk drivers are terrorists’ and described the incident as purely preventable carnage by the inebriated biker. He also pointed out that these acts are criminal negligence that destroyed entire families within seconds.

After giving out such an audacious statement, Sajjanar stood by his vigilant words and declared in his state, Hyderabad, there is a zero-tolerance stance against drunk driving.

“Drunk drivers are terrorists. Period. Drunk drivers are terrorists and their actions are nothing short of acts of terror on our roads. The horrific Kurnool bus accident, which claimed the lives of 20 innocent people, was not an accident in the truest sense. It was a preventable massacre, caused by the reckless and irresponsible behaviour of an intoxicated biker,” VC Sajjanar stated on his social media.

“This was not a road mishap but a criminal act of negligence that annihilated entire families within seconds. The biker, identified as B. Shiva Shankar, was under the influence of alcohol. CCTV footage shows him refueling his motorcycle at 2:24 a.m., minutes before he lost control and caused the devastating collision at 2:39 a.m. His decision to drive drunk turned a moment of arrogance into a tragedy of unimaginable scale,” he added.

“I stand firmly by my statement that DRUNK DRIVERS ARE TERRORISTS in every sense. They destroy lives, families, and futures. Such acts will never be tolerated,” he added.

Sajjanar opened up about his approach in Hyderabad to tackle drunk drivers, as whoever is caught driving while under the influence of alcohol will face the full force of the law, and there will not be any leniency or mercy against the individual.

Before the incident, Shankar and his friend refuelled their bike and left at 2:26 am. At the same spot, the bus was spotted at 2:39 am. About 10 minutes lat
