Richa Ghosh to play against Bangladesh? India bowling coach shares an update

Bowling coach Avishkar Salvi provided an update on Richa Ghosh’s availability for India’s Women’s World Cup match against Bangladesh on Sunday, October 26, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

During the previous game against New Zealand at the same venue, Richa sustained a finger injury on her left hand while attempting to collect a wide delivery from Renuka Singh. Although she initially continued to keep wickets, Uma Chetry later replaced her as a wicketkeeping substitute after Richa left the field.

Salvi said that Richa is in good shape and remains under the supervision of the medical staff.

“Richa is fine. The medical team is monitoring her, but she looks good,” Salvi said in the pre-match press conference.

SLOG OVER IMPROVEMENT

Salvi also acknowledged the need for India’s bowlers to improve their execution in the death overs but praised the younger players for their hard work and commitment. India struggled to defend targets against South Africa and Australia and fell short in a chase against England. However, they bounced back strongly with a 53-run (DLS) win over New Zealand.

“In one match, we defended 330; in another, we couldn’t defend 251. After that, we bounced back strongly in the 288 game. If I analyze it phase-wise – in the powerplay and middle overs, we’ve been good. There were a few execution errors, which we identified and have been working on in the nets,” Salvi said.

“In the slog overs, we still want to improve. It’s a young bowling attack, and they’re eager to learn every day. The dew makes the ball wet at times, but there are no excuses – the girls are working hard to get better,” Salvi added.

Regardless of the outcome of their final league match, India will finish fourth in the points table. They have already secured a place in the semifinals, where they will face Australia, who thrashed South Africa on Saturday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
