Purnia MP Pappu Yadav has received income tax notice for giving cash help to flood victims during the code of conduct. Calling it humanitarian aid, Yadav said they will continue to commit this “crime”. The Election Commission has already registered a case in this matter.
Amidst the heat of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav is once again in the headlines. This time the matter is not related to political statements, but to the help of flood victims. The Income Tax Department has sent him a notice. The reason for this is that despite the implementation of the code of conduct, he distributed cash assistance among the flood affected families.

Yadav’s pain was clearly visible. He wrote in the post, “If I had not helped the flood victims of Maniyari village of Nayagaon East Panchayat of Vaishali district, whose every house got submerged in Gangaji, would I have remained a mute spectator like the Minister of State for Home, the local MP or those who call themselves CM candidates?”
He said that his motive was not politics, but humanitarian aid. Yadav wrote, “People did not have food to eat, there was no roof over their heads. If helping in such a situation is a crime, then I will commit this crime again and again.”
Case has already been registered
This controversy is not new. In the beginning of October also, the Election Commission had taken cognizance of the same matter. Actually, Pappu Yadav had reached the spot after the devastation due to erosion in Ganiyari village of Vaishali district. He had given cash assistance of around Rs 5 lakh to around 80 affected families.
According to the rules of the code of conduct, giving cash or gifts to any public representative during the election period is prohibited, as it is considered an attempt to influence the voters. On this basis, the Election Commission had registered a case against him.
The system is tough on the poor, soft on the rich.
After the notice, Pappu Yadav said in another statement, “This country makes the one who helps the poor a criminal and the one who loots a leader. If showing humanity is a mistake, then I will keep making this mistake.” He sarcastically said that the government has not been able to run any concrete relief scheme for the flood victims, but cases and tax notices are being sent to those who are helping.
Political heat increased during election season
This controversy has come at a time when election campaigning is in full swing in Bihar and leaders are opening new fronts every day. Pappu Yadav has already been cornering the government on unemployment, corruption and administrative apathy. Now this issue of “Income Tax Notice vs Humanity” is not only trending on social media, but has also become a new issue of political debate.
