Sydney ODI: Rohit Sharma continues impactful run in Australia with another half-century

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma continued his impactful run in Australia ODI series with another fifty on Saturday. During the third and final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Rohit cheered up the audience with a masterful half-century. It was Rohit’s 60th career ODI half-century.

Earlier in the second ODI in Adelaide, Rohit had scored a brilliant 73-run knock which happened to be his 59th ODI fifty. Rohit got to his half-century in 60 balls studded with six boundaries and a maximum as India looked well in control of the 237-run chase in a bid to save the series sweep.

After the bowlers put in a brilliant effort to restrict the Australian side, Rohit and Gill started off well in the chase stitching a useful 69-run stand for the first wicket. Both the batters looked high on confidence but Gill failed to carry on the momentum as he departed for 24 runs. Rohit continued the hard work with Kohli who celebratory quickly after getting off the mark.

Rohit surpasses Gayle

Meanwhile enroute the brilliant fifty, Rohit surpassed Chris Gayle (92) for most ODI sixes visiting batters in SENA. The Mumbai batter had smashed just a single maximum which helped him surpass the elite record. Rohit remains five sixes away from the elusive record of scoring most sixes in the 50-over format. Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi leads the list with 351 sixes.

Apart from surpassing Gayle’s record, Rohit also holds the feat of most centuries by a visiting batter in SENA (13). Apart from a below-par batting performance in the series opener at Perth, Rohit has looked in a fabulous form in the second and the ongoing third ODI of the series.
