Chinese chili oil is a spicy oil blend, which enhances the taste of different foods. Its spicy vibrant taste and aroma of spices is amazing. It is used a lot in Chinese dishes. You can give an amazing twist by adding chilli oil to things like boiled noodles, fried rice, momos, Manchurian, soups. Many people also eat it with paratha and boiled egg. You must have tasted it many times in restaurants, but you can also make it at home with some ingredients. The best thing is that these oils can be stored for a long time and there is no need to prepare them again and again.
The method of preparing chilli oil is very simple, but you can make it properly restaurant style only if you take all the ingredients in the right quantity and follow the recipe step by step. So let us know the process from making chili oil to storing it.
What are the ingredients required?
To make chilli oil, you will need 4 cups of vegetable oil (you can also take grape seed oil and vegetable oil), 24-25 whole red chillies, Sichuan pepper 4 tablespoons, two spoons of red chilli flakes, 2.5 teaspoons of Korean chilli flakes, two star anise, two-three whole bay leaves (optional), garlic 19-20 buds, 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon soy sauce and two teaspoons salt.
How to make chili oil?
- The first step is to put Sichuan chillies, whole red chillies and chilli flakes in a pan and fry them on medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes or roast them till the aroma comes and turn off the gas.
- Now add bay leaves along with star anise along with 4 cups of oil in a pan and heat it so that the rawness goes away.
- Take a big bowl and add the roasted spice mixture, garlic cloves and soy sauce.

- Add heated oil to the prepared mixture and add two spoons of salt and keep it covered for half an hour.
- Separate the bay leaves and star anise from the mixture and blend all the remaining ingredients along with oil in a blender in pulse mode for 1-2 minutes.
- After cleaning the sesame seeds, lightly roast it and then mix it in the prepared oil. Let the prepared oil cool thoroughly.
Store chili oil like this
To store chili oil, take an airtight glass jar and after cleaning it thoroughly, wipe it dry.
Before pouring oil into the jar, check that there is no moisture in it at all. In this way, you can store chili oil and use it for at least 3 months and enjoy it with different things.
