Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli combine to commit a massive blunder, Harshit Rana shocked

Captain Shubman Gill, on Saturday (October 25), missed a big opportunity to put India in the driver’s seat in the ongoing third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

For the third time in a row in the ongoing series, the India captain made the wrong call at the toss as Australia opted to bat first.

India lost yet another toss

Captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave the hosts a steady start by adding 61 runs for the first wicket. The partnership was broken in the 10th over when Mohammed Siraj dismissed Head for 29 runs.

It was a back-of-a-length delivery from Siraj, and Head backed away to make room for himself. However, he could not keep his late cut grounded as he hit the ball straight to Prasidh Krishna at the backward point. His 29-run knock came off 25 balls and was studded with six fours.

Shubman Gill fails to hit the stumps

In the same over, India were agonisingly close to getting a second wicket but their captain Shubman Gill made a big blunder. He had the chance to run out in-form Matt Short but failed to hit the stumps from close range.

The Australian batter was yet to open his account when he drove Siraj’s delivery towards short cover. The fielder could not collect the ball cleanly, and it rolled towards mid-off.

As the fielder failed to collect the ball, Short wanted to steal a quick single, but Marsh said no. However, it was Short’s call, and the Australian batters eventually decided to go for the single.

In the meantime, Shubman Gill charged towards the ball and had ample time to hit the stumps. He had all three stumps to aim at m but failed to score a direct hit. The batter was nowhere in the frame when the ball went past the stumps, and the reaction of the Indian players said it all.

“Should have been out, Shubman Gill took too much time there,” Mark Waugh said on air before adding: “He wanted to throw at the keeper’s and changed his mind later.”
