Girls school attacked in Pakistan

According to Dawn report, on Friday, some unidentified miscreants blew up a girls primary school being built in Gara Budha village of Tank district near Dera Ismail Khan. This incident has spread fear and anger among the local people. According to Dawn, unknown assailants planted explosives under the boundary wall of the school and several classrooms and detonated them. The almost completed building suffered a lot of damage due to the early morning blast. Police said the bomb disposal squad later visited the spot, collected evidence and assessed the damage.

Who are the attackers?

What was the motive of this bomb attack and who are the people behind it, it is not yet clear. However, this attack has caused deep concern among the people of the area. Parents and social activists have strongly condemned this attack on girls’ education. They have demanded the provincial authorities to not only rebuild the school immediately but also ensure complete security in all schools in the area. Local people have warned that if the attackers are not arrested soon, they will demonstrate for justice.

A local elder expressed his disappointment, saying, “This is not just an attack on a school; this is an attack on the future of our daughters.” Repeated incidents of destruction of schools in Pakistan’s north-western region highlight the government’s continued failure to provide a safe learning environment, especially for young girls. In a separate incident, four employees of a mobile phone company who were kidnapped earlier this week were rescued safely on Friday, Dawn reported. These employees were abducted from Gara Bakhtiyar area when they were carrying telecom goods.

Police officials said that the kidnappers, probably fearing the ongoing operation, released the abducted people in Gara Mastan village without any conditions. As per Dawn report, a case has been registered with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) against unknown criminals.
