WATCH: Shreyas Iyer puts body on line to take a stunner in 3rd ODI vs Australia, leaves field injured

New Delhi: Team India star Shreyas Iyer put his body on the line to pull off a sensational catch in the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Saturday. Iyer ended up injuring himself in the process, but ensured his catch helped Harshit Rana get the crucial wicket of Alex Carey.

Opting to bat first in the game, Australia got off to a good start thanks to a 61-run opening stand between Travis Head and skipper Mitchell Marsh. However, the hosts were reduced to 124/3 after losing wickets at regular intervals. Matt Renshaw then joined hands with Carey to share an important 59-run stand for the 4th wicket.

The partnership was broken by Rana in the 34th over, when Iyer took a blinder to send Carey packing. The dismissal took place on the 4th delivery of the over when Carey went for a log on a short of length outside off delivery from the pacer. The ball went up in the air, and Iyer ran back from the backward point to complete a stunner.

Iyer kept his control while running back and timed his jump to perfection to complete an exceptional catch. However, he ended up injuring himself after falling awkwardly to his left. The Indian batter was attended by the team’s physio before leaving the pitch in what could be worrying signs for India.
