Chhath 2025 date: Chhath, the great festival of folk faith (Chhat Puja) It is starting from 25th October with ‘Nahay-Khay’ and will conclude with ‘Usha Arghya’ on 28th October. In this difficult fast that lasts for four days, Sun God and Chhathi Maiya are worshipped. The most unique and important ritual of this festival is to offer Arghya to the setting sun (Sandhya Arghya) and the rising sun (Usha Arghya). In Hindu religion, water is usually offered only to the rising Sun, but Chhath is the only festival in which Arghya is offered first to the setting (setting) Sun and then to the rising (rising) Sun. Let us know what is the difference between morning and evening worship in Chhath Puja.
Chhath Puja: Evening puja (Arghya to the setting sun) Third day
On the third day of Chhath festival, i.e. on the sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, Arghya is offered to the setting sun. It is also called Sandhya Arghya.
It is believed that in the evening, Sun God is with his wife Pratyusha, who is the last ray of the sun. Therefore this Arghya is also called Pratyusha Arghya. Offering Arghya to the setting sun symbolizes that every rise in life is followed by a fall and we should accept the ups and downs of our life. With this Arghya, darkness is removed from the lives of the devotees.
On this day, fasting women and men stand in waist-deep water and offer Arghya by placing worship materials like fruits, thekua, sugarcane etc. in a bamboo soup or brass basket.
Chhath Puja: Morning puja (Arghya to the rising sun) Fourth day
Arghya is offered to the rising sun on the fourth and last day of Chhath festival, i.e. on Saptami Tithi. This is called Usha Arghya.
There is a religious belief that at the time of sunrise, the Sun God is with his wife Usha, who is the first ray of the Sun and who is also called the goddess of dawn. Therefore it is called Udayagami Arghya or Usha Arghya. Offering Arghya to the rising sun is a symbol of new life, present and golden future. The fasting people seek blessings from the Sun God for strength, health, happiness, prosperity and long life of their children. Only after offering Udayagami Arghya, Chhath festival formally ends and the devotees break their 36-hour waterless fast.
On this day, the devotees again stand in the river or pond, offer milk and water to the first ray of the sun and worship Chhathi Maiya and the Sun God.
Importance of offering Arghya to the setting and rising sun
It is believed that while Sandhya Arghya is a prayer to remove the difficulties of life, Usha Arghya symbolizes the fulfillment of all wishes and the beginning of a new life. Thus, Chhath festival Not only is it a festival of sun worship, but it also reflects the deep values of Indian culture of purity, discipline, and respect at every stage of life.
