This year Chhath festival will start from 25th October and conclude with Arghya in the morning on 28th October. During the four-day Chhath Puja, special attention is paid to purity and special care is taken that every ritual associated with the puja is strictly followed. On this festival, there is a tradition of offering Arghya to the Sun God at the river ghat, but sometimes there is no river or pond nearby.   • Arrange puja at a clean place on the terrace or balcony of your house.
  • Make a small round or square trough with bricks or clay.
  • Do not use tubs or plastic utensils; Make a pond with mud and bricks.
  • Fill the pond with water up to waist level.
  • Fill the pond with water and add some Ganga water to it.

Things to keep in mind during Chhath Puja

  • From Nahay Khay till the day of morning Arghya, avoid keeping Tamasic things like garlic and onion in the house.
  • Maintain purity while making Chhath Prasad like thekua and rice laddu.
  • Those observing fast should sleep on a mat spread on the floor, not on a bed.
  • Those observing fast should wear unstitched clothes for all four days.
  • Offer evening and morning Arghya in the same pond made at home.

Keep all the offerings, like seasonal fruits, sugarcane, thekua etc., in a bamboo basket or brass vessel. Now, mix milk and water in a copper pot and offer it to the Sun God. With morning Arghya, seek forgiveness from Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya for any mistakes committed during the puja.
