Crime News: Britain-born 15-year-old Pakistani-origin student Mohammad Omar Khan stabbed his friend to death in Sheffield, England. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment for this. He has been sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing. Umar was also only 15 years old at the time of the incident. South Yorkshire Police have now made his identity public after Justice Naomi Ellenbogen lifted a ban on his identity being hidden due to his age.
Omar Khan will remain in jail for 16 years
The judge at Sheffield Crown Court ruled that Omar Khan must remain in prison for at least 16 years. The judge also said that Omar Khan had a long-standing interest in weapons. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, senior investigating officer of Yorkshire Police, said that the trial revealed that Omar Khan believed that carrying a knife would keep him safe and that doing so would give him a special status. The court was told the stabbing happened on the afternoon of February 3, when police were called to All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. At a six-week trial the court found that Harvey Wilgoose was stabbed and police arrested Omar Khan at the scene.

The student used to keep a knife with him to protect himself
A week before the incident, there had been a fight between the two boys in school. Omar Khan initially denied murder and pleaded innocent, but in August a jury found him guilty in the case. Omar Khan had earlier admitted that he had kept a blade-like object in the school. In court he said that he had kept the knife to protect himself, but he used the same knife to kill Harvey. He felt that his safety was in danger from people.
