Balrampur Assembly Election 2025: Balrampur assembly seat of Katihar district of Bihar has always been a hotspot of politics. Caste equations play a big role in this Muslim and Yadav dominated area. This seat, which came into existence after the delimitation of 2008, has been very important for CPI(ML)(L) and the Grand Alliance. Especially Mehboob Alam of CPI(ML) has established his dominance by winning here twice in a row.
2010 close election-independent wins
Balrampur assembly elections in the year 2010 were quite exciting. Independent candidate Dulal Chandra Goswami won by securing 48,136 votes. While Mehboob Alam of CPI(ML)(L) got 45,432 votes and lost by only 2,704 votes. This result proves that the environment here can change at any time.
Election 2015 -Withdrawal of CPI(ML)
Mehboob Alam made a strong comeback in 2015. He won by getting 62,513 votes, while BJP candidate Varun Kumar Jha got 42,094 votes. The victory margin was 20,419 votes. This time CPI(ML) further strengthened its support base.
One-sided contest of 2020
The 2020 assembly elections were the most important in the history of Balrampur. Mehboob Alam of CPI(ML)(L) secured a record 1,04,489 votes and defeated VIP candidate Varun Kumar Jha. Varun Jha got only 50,892 votes and the margin of defeat was 53,597 votes. This victory became a big proof of the wave of the Grand Alliance.
Important thing: CPI(ML)(L) leader Mehboob Alam has the same influence in politics as he has in the criminal world, that is why more than a dozen i.e. 14 criminal cases are pending against him. The total assets of this 12th pass communist leader are Rs 31.77 lakh and he also has outstanding liabilities of Rs 10 lakh.
