14 former MPs are contesting in Bihar Assembly elections 2025. JDU has fielded maximum 5 candidates, RJD 4, BJP and Jansuraj 2 each and AIMIM 1. With the arrival of these experienced faces, the election contest has become even more interesting.
Patna: This time in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, the contest is not only between old and new faces, but also between the strongmen of Lok Sabha versus Assembly. A total of 14 former MPs are in the fray for the assembly elections this time. Among these, maximum 5 candidates have fielded on JDU ticket. At the same time, 4 former MPs of RJD, 2 each of BJP and Jansuraj and 1 former MP of AIMIM are trying their luck in the electoral arena.
With the entry of these political giants, the election atmosphere of Bihar has become even more heated. Interestingly, 11 out of 14 former MPs are contesting from the assembly seats in the same areas which were earlier part of their Lok Sabha constituency. This means that this time these veterans will have to listen to the public’s decision in a smaller circle.
In Bihar elections 2025, JDU gave tickets to the maximum number of former MPs.
This time, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party JDU has given tickets to maximum 5 former MPs.
- Jehanabad to Chandreshwar Chandravanshi
- Gopalpur to Bulo Mandal
- Karakat to Mahabali Singh
- Kadwa to Dulalchand Goswami
- Samastipur to Ashwamedh Devi
This step of Nitish Kumar is a clear indication that JDU is trusting old experienced faces for organizational strength.
RJD gave chance to 4 former MPs in Bihar elections 2025
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav have also placed bets on their trusted former MPs.
- Jhajha to Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav
- Mokama to Veena Devi
- Renu Kushwaha from Bihariganj
- Dhamdaha to Santosh Kushwaha
Tejashwi Yadav’s strategy is clear that leaders with strong caste influence and Lok Sabha level experience should be sent to the Assembly, so that they can get an edge in the ground electoral battle.
BJP fields two former MPs in Bihar elections 2025
BJP has also expressed confidence in two former MPs, who have earlier played an important role in NDA’s Lok Sabha politics.
- Ramkripal Yadav from Danapur
- Sunil Kumar Pintu from Sitamarhi
Ramkripal Yadav, who was once close to Lalu Prasad Yadav, is now a senior BJP leader. He has been an MP from Patliputra Lok Sabha seat. Interestingly, Danapur assembly seat is part of Patliputra Lok Sabha constituency, which means the contest is now again in the same area where Misa Bharti had defeated her in 2024. At the same time, Sunil Kumar Pintu, who won the Lok Sabha on JDU ticket in 2019, is now fighting the assembly battle on BJP ticket.
Jansuraj and AIMIM also fielded former MPs
Prashant Kishor’s party Jansuraj has played a big gamble by giving tickets to two former MPs.
- Araria to Sarfaraz Alam
- Dhirendra Agarwal from Gaya Town
On Gaya Town seat, Dhirendra Aggarwal has a direct contest with senior BJP leader and former minister Dr. Prem Kumar, due to which this seat has become very hot. At the same time, AIMIM has put forward its strong Muslim face by making Monajir Hasan its candidate from Munger.
Election battle becomes interesting with old faces
This time in Bihar, the entry of these former MPs in the fight between NDA vs Grand Alliance has made the contest even more complicated. These faces, who are known at the Lok Sabha level, are now going to try themselves in the subtle politics of the Assembly.
Political analysts believe that old MPs not only have a large public relations network but also organizational experience. This is the reason why all the major parties have fielded their strong stalwarts this time.
