Tagging X, Shama Mohammed wrote, “Is Sarfaraz Khan not selected because of his surname? Just asking. We know what Gautam Gambhir thinks about this matter.”

Shama Mohammed’s comments come after Sarfaraz Khan was dropped from the India A team for the upcoming series against South Africa A in Bengaluru. Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused the Congress of trying to give a communal color to cricket. He wrote, “This woman and her party are sick. After calling Rohit Sharma fat, now she and her party want to divide our cricket team on communal lines? Are you not satisfied by dividing the country? Mohammed Siraj and Khalil Ahmed will play in the same team! Stop dividing India on communal and caste lines.”
Who is Sarfaraz Khan?
Sarfaraz Khan was born on 22 October 1997 in Mumbai. 28 year old Sarfaraz is a right hand batsman and legbreak bowler. Apart from Team India, he has played for teams like India Under 19, India A, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Under 19 and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sarfaraz, who last represented India in the home series against New Zealand in November 2024, was not included in the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, England tour or the West Indies series.
