Due to the cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, there is heavy rain in the coastal areas and the sea is also in spate. The Meteorological Department had already issued a red alert on the coasts of Tamil Nadu.

Holiday declared in schools due to heavy rain

Incessant rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry since last day have affected normal life. Due to continuous rains the water level in ponds and dams has increased. Branches of trees fell due to overnight rain in Chennai. Mettur Dam is also filled with water beyond its capacity. Due to heavy rains, there has been a huge impact on roads and life and people had to face a lot of problems. Keeping in mind the heavy rains and safety of children, it was decided to keep all schools in Chennai closed. District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade said that the safety of children is a priority.

Warning of heavy rain in next few hours

Amid heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin held a review meeting with officials. He directed the officers to remain alert and remain active in the field for rescue and relief operations. In such a situation, the India Meteorological Department has warned that in the next 24 hours, there may be stormy rains with strong winds in some parts of northern coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and southern Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from marine areas and not to venture into the Bay of Bengal. The department also said that according to the weather model, another low pressure area may form by the end of the month, which may turn into a cyclone.
