Chhath Puja 2025: Chhath festival is the most important festival of Sun worship. This festival is celebrated with great pomp mainly in the Terai areas of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. This festival is dedicated to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, in which a 36-hour waterless fast is observed for the happiness, prosperity and fulfillment of the wishes of the children. It is believed that this festival is a symbol of self-purification, happiness and prosperity of children and welfare of the family. According to the Panchang, in the year 2025, Chhath Puja will start from October 25 (Saturday) with Nahay-Khay. After this, Chhath festival will be concluded by offering Kharna on 26th October (Sunday), Arghya to the setting sun on 27th October (Monday) and Arghya to the rising sun on 28th October (Tuesday).
What to keep in Chhath Puja thali?
The plate of Chhath Puja is considered very sacred and every item in it has special religious significance. Let us know which things are important to keep in the puja thali.
Thekua
Main Prasad of Chhath Puja. It is made from wheat flour, jaggery and ghee. It is dedicated to Sun God.
fruits and flowers
It is considered auspicious to keep seasonal fruits like banana, coconut, guava, lemon, sugarcane, apple, sweet potato and orange in the plate.
coconut (including copra)
Symbol of completeness and purity. It is kept on top of the Kalash or placed in a plate.
lamp and incense sticks
Sun God is worshiped with lamps and the atmosphere is purified with incense sticks.
vermillion and turmeric
Women apply vermillion on their forehead during puja and the use of turmeric is considered a symbol of Mars.
Karwa and Sup (bamboo basket)
Prasad and Arghya items are kept in the soup. At the same time, Karva is filled with water and offered to the Sun God.
sugarcane and radish
Sugarcane is a symbol of long life while radish is considered a symbol of purity and penance.
Betel, betel nut and clove-cardamom
They have special importance in the worship of Sun God. These are considered part of the Prasad.

Chhath Puja 2025 date and significance
- Nahay-Khay (25 October) Women purify the house after taking bath and make Prasad of gourd and gram dal and eat it.
- Kharna (26 October) The fasting person observes waterless fast throughout the day and starts the fast by eating jaggery kheer and roti in the evening.
- First Arghya (27 October) Arghya is offered to the setting sun with water, milk and flowers. Women stand in water and worship the Sun God.
- Second Arghya (28 October) The fast is completed by offering Arghya to the rising sun. After this, Prasad is consumed with the family.
