Something amazing is being seen from the very first match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England. While in the very first match an England batsman scored a century, now a 20 year old batsman from Bangladesh did wonders. Bangladesh opener Zaria Firdaus, playing her first match in the T20 World Cup, scored an explosive half-century against Netherlands and gave the team its first win.

While everyone’s eyes were on the India-Pakistan match in Birmingham, just before that there was a clash between Netherlands and Bangladesh on the same ground in Edgbaston. In this match, Netherlands batted first and then scored 139 runs after losing 8 wickets. In response, Bangladesh achieved this target by scoring 141 runs in 19.1 overs. Right-handed batsman Zuaria Firdaus was the star of Bangladeshi team’s victory.

Explosive innings in World Cup debut

20-year-old Firdaus, who made her debut in T20 International this year, gave an explosive start to the team, on the basis of which Bangladesh scored 67 runs in just 7.5 overs. At this moment Firdaus was out. How tremendous his innings was can be gauged from the fact that out of the team’s score of 67 runs, 50 runs were from Firdaus.

He scored his half-century in just 32 balls, which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. Taking advantage of the start given by Firdaus, Bangladesh’s middle order batsmen took the team to victory. Bangladesh won this match by 6 wickets.

Won gold in Hockey-Kabaddi

With this performance, Firdaus proved that she is indeed made for sports, no matter what it is. We are saying this because before making her debut in international cricket, she was showing her strength in other sports also and was achieving success. Before completely dedicating herself to cricket, she was also participating in hockey, kabaddi and shot put till 2023, where she won gold medals in all three sports in the National Games of Bangladesh.
