2025 Volkswagen Golf Earns 5-Star Safety Rating In Euro NCAP Tests

Volkswagen has once again proved that safety is the top most priority of its design philosophy. The 2025 Volkswagen Golf has scored a 5-star overall safety rating from Euro NCAP which is Europe’s top car safety testing agency.

This makes the Golf one of the safest small family cars available in the markets.

This latest rating reaffirms the Golf’s long-standing reputation for safety, as the eighth-generation Golf, which was first tested in 2019, has now been reassessed under Euro NCAP’s updated and even stricter testing rules. Volkswagen made several safety upgrades for the 2025 version and the results clearly show the improvements.

Safety Scores

In the 2025 safety tests, the Golf scored following in all categories:

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 80%
  • Child Occupant Protection: 86%
  • Vulnerable Road Users (Pedestrians & Cyclists): 85%
  • Safety Assist Features: 79%

These results position the Golf among the top performers in the small family car segment.

What Makes It Safe

The Volkswagen Golf’s passenger compartment remained stable in frontal crash tests which protects both the driver and passengers effectively, it also features a center airbag which helps prevent front-seat passengers from colliding with each other during a side impact.

For child safety, test dummies showed good protection in most areas, though there was a slight concern for the neck area of a 10-year-old dummy in frontal impact tests. The seats and headrests performed well in preventing neck and cervical sprain during rear-end collisions.

Pedestrian and cyclist protection was also remarkable with the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system performing effectively in detecting and reacting to obstacles.

Safety Technology

The 2025 Golf comes loaded with advanced safety systems, including:

  • AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection
  • Driver fatigue monitoring
  • Lane-keeping assist to prevent unintentional drifting
  • Post-collision braking to reduce secondary impacts
  • eCall emergency system, which automatically contacts rescue services after a crash
