What is Annakoot Prasad? (What is Annakut)
Annakoot Prasad is an important part of Govardhan Puja or Annakoot Utsav, which is celebrated after Diwali. In Annakoot, many types of dishes, especially dishes made from vegetables, are offered to Lord Krishna. This Prasad is also called ‘mountain of food’ or ‘mountain of food’, which is considered a symbol of gratitude and abundance towards God.
What materials are required for Govardhan Puja? (Govardhan puja material)

How to perform Govardhan Puja at home? (How to do Govardhan puja)
- Make the shape of Govardhan Mountain from cow dung and install the idol or picture of Lord Krishna on it.
- Then make a bowl-sized pit on the navel of the mountain and place a bowl or a lamp in it.
- For Govardhan Puja, purification should be done first.
- Then while meditating on Lord Krishna, chant the mantra Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya.
- “Govardhan Dharadhar Gokul Traankaraak. Vishnu Bahukritochchhraya Gavan Kotiprado Bhava.” Chant the main mantra 108 times.
- Light a lamp in front of Govardhan Mountain and offer milk, curd, honey, batasha, peda and laddu etc.
- After worshiping, perform Aarti of Govardhan ji.
- Circumambulate the Govardhan mountain made of cow dung.
How many parikrama should be done around Govardhan ji?
On the day of Govardhan Puja, one should circumambulate Govardhan ji 7 or 11 times, especially on the day of Govardhan Puja. Doing this parikrama with the entire family is considered auspicious and it brings happiness and prosperity in the house.
What is Govardhan Parikrama Mantra?
While circumambulating the Govardhan mountain during Govardhan Puja – Govardhan Dharadhar Gokul is the savior, Vishnubahu Kritochchray Gavan Kotiprabho Bhava. Mantra should be chanted.
What to do on the day of Govardhan Puja?
- Make the shape of Govardhan Mountain with cow dung in the courtyard or main entrance of the house.
- Install the statue or picture of Lord Krishna in the middle of the mountain.
- Prepare 56 Bhog or Annakoot with devotion and offer it to Govardhan Maharaj.
- Worship mother cow, bathe her, apply tilak, garland her with flowers and feed her green fodder.
- Eat only satvik food throughout the day.
- Be sure to visit Lord Krishna’s temple in the evening.
- Wear red, yellow or orange colored clothes in worship and auspicious works. These are symbols of auspiciousness and devotion.
What not to do on the day of Govardhan Puja?
- Do not pluck basil leaves on the day of Govardhan Puja.
- Do not wear black or blue clothes during puja.
- Do not keep the main door or windows of the house closed, so that the flow of positive energy continues.
- Do not consume meat, alcohol and tamasic food.
- Do not cut any trees or plants, because this day is a symbol of gratitude and respect towards nature.
