Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday arrived to take stock of the ongoing construction work on the Versova-Dahisar stretch of Mumbai Coastal Road. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister informed that the Mumbai Coastal Road Project is expected to be completed by October-November or December 2028. This will provide huge relief to Mumbai. 60% of Mumbai’s traffic passes directly through the Western Expressway, and to reduce the pressure on it, we are creating a signal-free road from Nariman Point to Bhayandar. It is our endeavor to complete this entire project on time.
The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 29.2-kilometre-long, toll-free, eight-lane expressway being built along the city’s western coast from Marine Lines to Kandivali, with plans to extend it to Bhayandar. The aim of this high-speed corridor is to reduce the travel time on the entire route from more than two hours to just 40 minutes.
Drivers can hear Jai Ho…
- Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had inaugurated the ‘Melody Road’ stretch from Amarsons Garden to Breach Candy on Dharamvir, Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road (South) on February 12.
- The most special thing about this stretch is that while passing through here, the drivers hear the Oscar-winning song “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire. Special rumble strips have been installed on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, which create a tune when vehicles pass by. This concept is based on Hungarian technology.
This concept is very rare in the world
Talking about this unique road, Hungarian Consul General Ferenc Jari told ANI, “…This concept of Melody Road is very rare in the world. Only a few countries have Melody Roads. But the cheapest technology to build the Melody Road comes from Hungary… An Indian businessman had gone to Hungary and coincidentally he walked on the Melody Road. Then he contacted me and asked if we could do such a project in India. We worked with Hungarian engineers and their Contacted the team, and we started preparing for this project… BMC offered Coastal Road, and the song ‘Jai Ho’ was chosen, and we are waiting for the response from the cars of Mumbai…”
