Uttarkashi: The revered Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra 2025 is coming to an end. Gangotri Dham, one of the four sacred shrines, will close its doors for the winter season tomorrow, on Wednesday, October 22. The temple administration has completed all preparations for the ceremonial closure.
The doors of Gangotri Dham will be closed at 11:36 am during the auspicious Abhijit Muhurta on the day of the Annakut festival. After the closure, the idol of Mother Ganga will begin its journey to Mukhba village, her winter residence. The idol will be accompanied by the Bhoga Murti, an army band, and local musical instruments.

Idol will reach Mukhba on oct 23
On the night of October 22, the palanquin carrying the idol will rest at the Markandeya Temple, located about two kilometers east of Mukhba. On October 23, the idol will reach Mukhba village, where it will be installed in the temple with proper rituals. For the next six months, devotees will offer prayers to Mother Ganga at this winter shrine.
This year, the Gangotri Dham Yatra began on April 30. As of October 20, over 7.57 lakh devotees had visited the shrine. On Diwali alone, 937 devotees received blessings at Gangotri Dham.
Other shrines will also be closed
The other shrines of the Chardham Yatra—Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath—will also close soon. Yamunotri and Kedarnath Dham will close on October 23, on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj.
Yamunotri Dham will close at 12:30 pm on October 23. After the closure, the idol of Mother Yamuna will be taken to her winter home in Kharsali village. The Yamunotri shrine also opened on April 30 and has welcomed over 6.44 lakh devotees this season.
Kedarnath shrine will also be closed on the same day
Kedarnath Dham will close on October 23 at 8:30 am with traditional rituals. After the closure, Baba Kedar’s winter darshan will be held at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, Rudraprayag district.
Badrinath to close on Nov 25
Badrinath Dham will be the last to close, on November 25. After that, winter prayers will be held at the Narsingh Temple in Jyotirmath, Chamoli, and at the temples of Uddhav and Kubera in Pandukeshwar. With the closing of these sacred shrines, the Char Dham Yatra 2025 will officially conclude, marking the end of a spiritually rich pilgrimage season in Uttarakhand.
