Tesla is once again making the headlines with the latest update to its Full Self-Driving, also known as ‘Supervised’ system by introducing a new driving mode called “Mad Max.” This is the most aggressive setting Tesla has ever introduced which allows the car to drive faster and make quicker lane changes even if that means slightly bending speed limits.
Earlier, the highest driving mode available was “Hurry” which now takes the second place. The full list of Tesla’s driving modes now includes Sloth, Chill, Standard, Hurry, and the new Mad Max. These drive modes essentially let the driver choose how easy or aggressive the car behaves while driving itself.
If the new name of the new mode sounds familiar, that is because it is derived from the “Mad Max” movie series which is famous for its fast-paced, chaotic car chases in a post-apocalyptic world. Interestingly, Tesla had experimented with a similar mode years ago which was back in 2018 when it first launched the early versions of Autopilot, the system that eventually evolved into today’s Full Self-Driving mode. Back then, CEO Elon Musk said the mode was designed to help the car handle tough traffic conditions more efficiently, especially in busy cities like Los Angeles.
Now, Tesla has reintroduced “Mad Max” mode with more advanced capabilities, however It is currently available only to a limited number of Early Access testers which means regular Tesla owners don’t have it yet. Early users report that cars in this mode feel “sportier” that accelerates faster, changes lanes more confidently, and reaches speeds up to 85 mph (around 137 km/h), however this mode ignores speed limit.
Many Tesla fans and auto enthusiasts are excited about the update and calling it a sign of progress toward true autonomous driving, where the car can make smart, human-like decisions with minimal driver input.
However, this feature won’t be available in India anytime soon, as Tesla’s Full Self-Driving system hasn’t been launched in the country yet.
