Kolkata: Sensex 30 and Nifty 50 began Samvat 2082 on a cheerful note, notching up significant gains in the first few minutes of the special Muhurat trading session on October 21. Just five minutes after trading began, Sensex 30 stood at 4,546.23, up 594.04 points (or 0.71%), while Nifty 50 stood at 25,904.45, up 61.30 points (or 0.24%).

Every Samvat begins with a lot of prayers, but this year, the prayers are almost the same for every category of investors. There should be no new nasty surprises this year as the market suffered in Samvat 2081, mainly in the form of the retaliatory tariffs of US president Donald Trump. While Trump introduced a new element of trade-related uncertainty all over the world, for India the problem was specially significant since he imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods except a few items such as generic drugs.
