Now preparations for Chhath Puja, the great festival of folk faith, have started. Chhath Puja is a unique festival of worship of Chhath Maiya and Lord Surya. A confluence of nature and faith is seen in this festival. In this festival, women and men observe Nirjala fast praying for happiness and prosperity in the life of their children.

The festival of Chhath Puja lasts for four days. This festival starts with Nahay-Khay and ends with offering Arghya to the rising sun. Chhath Puja 2025 Date

According to the Panchang, this year Chhath Puja will start from October 25. This festival will continue till 28th October. This festival will start on 25th October with Nahay-Khay. Kharna will be held on the second day on 26th October. Then on the third day on 27th October, Arghya will be offered to the setting sun i.e. the setting sun. Arghya will be offered to the rising sun on 28th October, the last day of Chhath Puja. With this this festival will end.

Method of Chhath Puja (Chhath Puja Vidhi)

On this day, devotees take a dip in the Ganges or any holy river before sunrise. That means taking a bath. After this the houses are cleaned. Then prasad of gram dal, pumpkin and rice is prepared. This Prasad is consumed by the fasting person and his family. It is told in Skanda Purana that the blessings of Chhathi Maiya begin from this day.

Kharna the next day

Kharna is performed on the second day of Chhath Puja. On this day, fasting people prepare jaggery kheer and roti on a wooden stove. Then after this the fasting person eats Prasad. After this the 36 hour waterless fast begins. According to beliefs, Chhathi Maiya resides in the house after Kharna.

Arghya to the setting sun on the third day

While fasting without water on the third day of Chhath Puja, Arghya is offered to the setting sun. This Arghya is offered to the Sun God in bamboo soup along with fruits, thekua and sweets.

Arghya to the rising sun on the fourth day

On the fourth i.e. last day of Chhath Puja, devotees offer Arghya to the rising sun on the banks of the river. Then after that they do seven or eleven parikrama. After this the fast is broken.
