Folarin Balogun Story: Folarin Balogun of Nigerian origin was born coincidentally in America. By scoring 2 goals in the World Cup, he became the first American to do so since 1930. With his help, America defeated Paraguay 4-1.
Folarin Balogun Remarkable StoryIf American airline staff had allowed a pregnant woman to board a flight to London 25 years ago, perhaps America would not have got a star striker like Folarin Balogun in the World Cup this time.
Balogan made a unique record for America
Balogun became the first American player since 1930 to score two goals in a World Cup match. He was born in America, but his parents are from Nigeria and lived in England. In 2001, Balogun’s mother Florence came from London to New York to visit her family. When she was returning, due to pregnancy she was not allowed to board the flight without medical clearance. So Florence had to stay there and within a few days she gave birth to a son.
She returned to London a few weeks after her birth. Balogun grew up there and began football training at the Arsenal club’s Hale End Academy at a young age. After this he went to France and made his mark as a talented footballer. Then fate brought him back to America and since 2023, he has been playing for the national team there.
The son of Nigerian parents and an American citizen by birth, he learned football in London, becoming a prolific goalscorer in France and also playing for the England under-17 and under-21 teams. Now the same Balogan has become the hero of America’s victory in the very first match of the World Cup.
Rain of goals for America, great victory 4-1
Inglewood (California): Host America has started with a spectacular victory in the FIFA World Cup. In the match against Paraguay on Saturday morning, America scored goals and won by a margin of 4-1. This is also America’s record for the highest number of goals scored in a World Cup match so far.
The American team was able to score only 4 goals in 3 matches in the 2022 World Cup. Also, the team had never scored more than 3 goals in any World Cup match before. But against Paraguay the team took a 3-0 lead in the first half itself.
In the 31st minute of the match, America got a 1-0 lead due to an own goal mistake by Paraguay player Damien Bobadilla. Immediately after this, Folarin Balogun almost ensured America’s victory by scoring two goals in the 32nd minute and in the extra time (45+5th minute) of the first half. In the second half, Mauricio scored a goal for Paraguay in the 73rd minute, but Giovanni Renna’s goal in the 98th minute further increased the margin of victory for America.
