Light Diwali lamps with castor oil as it has low smoking point: Sadhguru’s pro tip for Diwali

New Delhi: As millions across the world celebrate Diwali, Sadhguru shared his message on the significance of the festival of lights, urging people to turn inward and kindle the light within.

Taking to social media X, Sadhguru shared, “Obliteration of darkness is the nature of Light. May your inner Light grow – to illuminate you and all that you touch. A Dazzling Diwali to you. Love & Blessings.”

Explaining the essence of the festival of lights, Sadhguru said, “…Only in light we can see better. So unless we see better, can we walk better, can we run better, can we do anything better in our life? We need to see better. Seeing better is not just with our eyes. In our mind, we must see clearly…If we don’t see things clearly, we’re not getting anywhere.”

Speaking on the scientific reason behind the festival, Sadhguru noted that Diwali originated from an understanding of the seasonal shifts in the northern hemisphere. “…These things come from a deep understanding that in wintertime, as the northern face of the planet turns away from the sun, it gets cold, not enough sunlight…So this is a time when human beings tend to depress, not just mentally, even physically, there is a certain depression happening,” shared Sadhguru.

“…Everything tends to become low. So lighting a lamp is a part of it. We can light various kinds of lamps, but the best thing to light is a lamp with castor oil, because it has a low smoking point,” he added.

Highlighting the deeper purpose of Bharatiya culture and festivals, Sadhguru said that it comes from a civilization that seeks to produce human beings who are fearless, greedless, and guiltless. He explained that fear arises because one imagines something that has not yet happened–  and when a person has good control over their faculties, they become fearless. One becomes guiltless by making oneself inclusive; when we are inclusive, we will never do anything wrong, and hence there is no guilt. Similarly, we are greedless when we make ourselves in such a way that simply sitting here, we feel fulfilled– with no need to do something else to become better.

“You are fearless…You are guiltless and you are greedless…If this happens, we have created a wonderful humanity. Humanity does not mean somebody or all the people. It means this (oneself). If this becomes wonderful, everything else becomes wonderful,” concluded Sadhguru, urging people to light their inner lamp this Diwali.
