Due to heavy rains and strong winds, more than 22,000 people moved to safer places from areas at risk of floods and landslides. According to the Meteorological Department, Fengshen moved towards the South China Sea through Luzon in northern Philippines late on Sunday night. During this period the wind speed was between 65 to 80 kilometers per hour.

7 people dead so far in Fengshen storm

The Government Disaster Management Agency has said that so far 7 people have died in the Fengshen storm. Flooding in several villages increased due to high tide in Roxas city in central Capiz province. Relief and rescue teams evacuated people to safe places. It is believed that the death toll may increase. One person drowned in flood waters in Roxas, while two children and three others were killed when a tree fell on a hut in Pitogo town in eastern Quezon province.

30,000 people and families affected

According to the government agency Office of Civil Defense, 8 people died in the storm that hit on Sunday and 2 people are still missing. Five people were killed when a large tree fell in Pitogo town in Quezon province, while three were killed in the Western Visayas region, OCD spokesperson Juni Castillo said. About 15,000 families i.e. about 30,000 people were affected by this storm in the entire country. So far 22,000 people have been evacuated to safe places. Fengshen has caused heavy rainfall, flooding and landslides in the central and southern Philippines. The Meteorological Department estimates that the storm will move out of the country’s borders by Monday morning. It is noteworthy that an average of 20 typhoons occur in the Philippines every year.
