Daniil Medvedev ends 882-day long title drought with Almaty Open triumph

New Delhi: Daniil Medvedev finally ended his long-standing title drought with victory against Corentin Moutet in the final of the Almaty Open on Sunday. Medvedev clinched the Almaty Open title after beating France’s Moutet 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, continuing her resurgent run after enduring a dismal season. The Russian ended an 882-day-long title drought with his triumph at the Almaty Open.

The former world no.1, who was once considered a future contender for Grand Slams, was far from his best at the majors in 2025. Medvedev managed only one win in Grand Slam tournaments this year, suffering first-round exits at the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. He also had an infamous meltdown at the US Open 2025 during his first-round loss against Benjamin Bonzi.

Medvedev, who split with his long-time coach Gilles Cervara after his disappointing run this season, is currently working with the pair of Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke. He has started to find his feet under the pair and has been steadily improving his performances on tour. Medvedev earned a hard-fought win against Moutet in the final to win the Almaty Open crown.
