New Delhi: A 43-year-old man was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Bawana area of Delhi on Friday. The victim, identified as Deepak, was attacked by the miscreants while he was out on morning walk with his daughter, police said. Dipak is said to be the nephew of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal, who was in a long-standing rivalry with UK-based fugitive gangster Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu.
While police said that a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder, initial reports claimed that he might have been killed due to a fallout of the ongoing rivalry between the two gangsters. It is being suspected that the Nandu gang based abroad is behind this attack, police sources said.
Dipak was shot dead at around 7.30 am this morning at the Nangal Thakaran village in Bawana in outer north Delhi by at least two unidentified bike-borne assailants. Deepak’s 10-year-old daughter who was also with him when he was attacked suffered minor injuries after a bullet pierced he hand. She is presently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Deepak’s father and mother were also walking a few metres behind him at the time of the attack. About half a dozen bullets were fired at Deepak by the assailants.
Dipak, a trader by profession, lived with his parents, wife and children in Nangal Thakran village of Bawana. He used to go for morning walk with his entire family on Bawana road every morning.
According to the police, Dipak had no criminal background. It is being suspected that Nandu gang is behind the murder as the rivalry between Nandu and Manjeet gangs has been going on for many years. In April, Nandu gang had got property dealer Rajkumar Daral, close to Manjeet Mahal, murdered in Paschim Vihar.
CCTV footage revealed that the miscreants had been doing recce of Dipak’s house for the last four days and were keeping an eye on him and his family.
