Diwali 2025: Tomorrow i.e. on 20th October the whole country will celebrate the festival of Diwali. Mother Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped on the day of Diwali. It is believed that worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on Diwali increases wealth and prosperity in the house. On the day of Diwali, along with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, many other gods and goddesses are also worshipped.

However, Lord Vishnu, the creator of the world, is not worshiped on this day. It is believed that worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day does not yield any results. Let us know what is the reason why Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped? Why is Lord Vishnu not worshiped on Diwali?

On Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi travels alone on earth.

According to Vishnu Purana, Lord Vishnu goes into yoga nidra for four months on Devshayani Ekadashi. Devshayani Ekadashi falls in the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month. It is told in the Puranas that the festival of Diwali is celebrated in Chaturmas. Lord Vishnu remains in Yoganidra on the day of Diwali. This is the reason why Goddess Lakshmi travels alone on earth on the day of Diwali. Lord Vishnu wakes up from Yoganidra 11 days after Diwali. It is called Devuthani Ekadashi.

According to the story…

According to a story described in Mahapuran, once Goddess Lakshmi became proud of herself. When Lord Vishnu came to know about this, he told Goddess Lakshmi that even if the whole world desires to have you. Worships you, but you are still incomplete. On this Lakshmi asked why is this so? On this Lord Vishnu said that no woman is considered complete without becoming a mother.

Mother Lakshmi felt very sad after hearing the words of Lord Vishnu. Seeing Mother Lakshmi sad, Mother Parvati came to her and made Ganesh ji sit in her lap. Also said that from today onwards Ganesh will be called your son. From then on, Ganesh ji started being called the adopted son of Goddess Lakshmi. Mother Lakshmi gave a boon to Lord Ganesha that from today onwards he would not be worshiped without her.

Mother Lakshmi told Ganesh ji that whoever worships her without her, she will not go near him. Therefore, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped together on Diwali.
