Rohit Sharma, IND vs AFG 1st ODI: In the first ODI against Afghanistan, Indian cricket team’s star batsman Rohit Sharma got both happiness and disappointment in the same match. On one hand, Rohit Sharma achieved a big historic milestone as soon as he entered the field in this match, on the other hand, due to poor coordination, he had to be run out and leave the field with a very disappointed heart. Due to which he lost his wicket cheaply.

Completed 16,000 runs as an opener

Rohit Sharma played a short but historic innings against Afghanistan in this match. As soon as he scored 6 runs during his innings, he completed his 16,000 runs in international cricket as an opener. He became the second opener from India and among the select openers in the world to touch this magical figure. Before him, only Virender Sehwag could do this. He has scored 16119 international runs as an opener.

Rohit’s heart broke again in the middle of the field

Rohit Sharma had just reached this historical figure when after some time he was run out. This incident happened on the fourth ball of the sixth over of the Indian innings, when Afghan bowler Ghazanfar was bowling. Rohit Sharma gently pushed the ball towards midwicket and ran for runs. He had reached half the crease, but bowler Ghazanfar came in front of Shubman Gill to stop the ball. Seeing the bowler on his way, Shubman Gill, standing at the non-striker’s end, raised his hand indicating to stop.

Meanwhile, the midwicket fielder quickly picked up the ball and threw it towards wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Gurbaz scattered the wickets in the blink of an eye. Rohit Sharma also made a long dive to return to the crease, but by then it was too late and he remained far away from the crease. Due to which he returned to the pavilion after playing an innings of 16 runs in 16 balls.

Strange coincidence of run out against Afghanistan

It is quite rare for Rohit Sharma to be run out. Actually, in the last 3 years, Rohit Sharma has been run out only twice in international cricket and the interesting thing is that both the times he has been run out against Afghanistan. Earlier, he was out in the same manner against Afghanistan in the year 2024 also.
