Bengaluru Crime: Two Arrested After Woman’s Fingers Chopped Off During Robbery In Girinagar, CCTV Footage Surfaces

Bengaluru News: Two men have been arrested in Bengaluru for a violent robbery that left a woman injured after she tried to resist them.

The incident, which took place in Girinagar on September 13, was captured on CCTV, showing two bike-borne robbers attacking the victims with a machete before fleeing with gold jewellery worth around Rs 7 lakh.

According to police, the victims, Usha and Varalakshmi, were returning home after attending a Ganesh festival orchestra in the Eashwari Nagar area when they were confronted by two men on a motorcycle. The accused, identified as Praveen and Yogananda, stopped the women and threatened them with a machete, demanding their jewellery.

Frightened, Usha handed over her gold chain, but Varalakshmi resisted the robbers. Enraged, Yogananda attacked her, chopping off two of her fingers with the machete before snatching her gold chain. The duo then escaped from the scene with a total of 55 grams of gold ornaments, 10 grams from Usha and 45 grams from Varalakshmi.

Following a complaint by the victims, Girinagar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and formed a special investigation team to track down the accused.

After weeks of search, the police arrested Yogananda from Maddur and later apprehended Praveen. The team also recovered 74 grams of gold jewellery and the machete used in the attack.

Accused Has Criminal Past

Investigations revealed that Yogananda, a resident of Bengaluru, has a criminal record and was earlier involved in a murder case. After the robbery, he reportedly travelled to Puducherry, Mumbai and Goa, spending part of the stolen money before returning to his native Marasinganahalli village in Karnataka.

Police said the accused were planning to sell the remaining jewellery before being arrested. Both have been remanded in custody as further investigation continues.
