New Delhi: The government on Saturday announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth as the next Army Chief. He will assume his charge from July 1. Lieutenant General Seth brings with him nearly four decades of operational and strategic experience.

How has your career been?

Lieutenant General Seth has been an alumnus of the National Defense Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla. He was commissioned in the Armored Corps in December 1986. Over the years, he has made a brilliant career by serving in different areas. He also has vast experience in counter-insurgency i.e. anti-terrorism operations.

He has commanded an armored regiment in the desert sector, an armored brigade in the developed sector and a counter-insurgency force in Jammu and Kashmir. When he was promoted to the rank of Army Commander, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of both the South Western Command and the Southern Command. Thus he has the rare distinction of holding two operational commands on the Western Front. After promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General, he commanded the Bhopal-based XXI Corps, also known as Sudarshan Chakra Corps. It is a major strike formation of the Army.

Top in studies and training also

According to the report, Lieutenant General Seth has always been on top in all the courses related to studies and training. He stood first in the Junior Command Course and was awarded the ‘Best All Round Student Officer Medal’ at the Defense Services Staff College. He has also attended the Higher Command Course and the prestigious National Defense College. At present, Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth holds the second most senior position in the Indian Army as Vice Chief of Army Staff.
