According to the new policy, Aadhar card will be issued to applicants below 18 years of age as before. But, people above 18 years of age will now have to go through a special verification process. Only after this their Aadhar card will be made. In such cases, the concerned Deputy Commissioner will send his recommendation to the State Government and the final decision on the same will be taken by the Government.

However, members of the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and tea garden community are exempted from this rule. These people will be able to enroll for Aadhaar like before till March next year.

The Chief Minister further said that this step is aimed at removing the shortcomings of the Aadhaar enrollment process. He made it clear that all people above 18 years of age will now have to go through a new and better verification process. This step of the government will help in strengthening the identity verification system and especially in preventing illegal infiltrators coming from Bangladesh from obtaining Aadhaar cards.
