Injured Shah Rukh Khan says ‘keep popcorn ready’ after National Award win for ‘Jawan’

Shah Rukh Khan has finally won his first National Film Award. At the 71st National Film Awards, he took home the Best Actor trophy for his intense and action-packed performance in the film ‘Jawan’.

Even though Shah Rukh is currently recovering from an injury, he didn’t miss the chance to speak directly to his fans.

In a video shared on social media, the actor appeared wearing a black T-shirt and a beanie, his injured arm resting in a sling. Standing in front of a bookshelf, he smiled warmly and shared his feelings about this big moment.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude, pride, and humility,” he said in the video. “To be honoured with a National Award is something I will never forget. Thank you to the jury, the chairman, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and everyone who believed in me.”

The award is special for Shah Rukh, not just because it’s his first National Award, but also because it comes after a very successful year. In 2023, he made a grand return to cinema after four years with ‘Pathaan’, and followed it up with ‘Jawan’, which was a massive hit.

While ‘Pathaan’ brought back the crowd to theatres, it was ‘Jawan’ that helped him bag this national honour.

Known for his humour and charm, Shah Rukh also added a light-hearted touch to his message. “I would love to spread both my arms and send you love. But I’m a bit injured,” he said with a smile. “So just keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back in theatres and on the streets very soon. Till then, I’ll manage with one arm. Ready?”

He also took time to thank the directors and writers who supported him throughout 2023. He gave a special mention to director Atlee, who helmed ‘Jawan’.

“Thank you, Raju sir. Thank you, Saeed. And a big thank you to Atlee sir and his entire team for trusting me with ‘Jawan’ and giving me the space to perform. I’m grateful they believed I could do justice to the role.”

The actor is currently healing from an injury that reportedly happened while filming his upcoming project ‘King’.
