Rohit Sharma 1 Match Away From Huge Milestone, Set To Join Virat Kohli And Sachin Tendulkar In Huge List

Rohit Sharma will make his much-awaited return to international cricket in the ODI series against Australia. Rohit is now only active in the ODI format.

India haven’t played an ODI since the 2025 Champions Trophy final, which took place in March. Rohit is just one match away from a huge milestone and will join Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar in a huge list when he takes the field in the game of the three-match ODI series.

Rohit has played 499 international matches and will complete 500 matches when he takes the field in Perth on October 19. Sachin tops the list of Indian players to play the most international matches. The Master Blaster played 664 matches.

He is followed by Virat Kohli, who played 550 matches. With 538 caps, MS Dhoni sits at the third spot. Virat is now only active in ODIs while Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020.

Rohit Sharma’s international career

Rohit Sharma made his India debut in an ODI against Ireland in 2007. He was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team. Rohit was in and out of the white-ball teams till 2013.

Dhoni’s decision to hand him the opening job did wonders for Rohit and he fixed his spot in ODI and T20I teams. He was appointed the white-ball team’s vice-captain in 2017.

He was an irregular member of the Test team from 2013 to 2019. The Ravi Shastri-coached team management handed the opening job to Rohit in Tests in October 2019 and he remained a regular in the red-ball team till 2024. Rohit captained India’s Test team from 2022 to 2024.

Rohit finished his Test career with 4301 runs in 67 Tests. He finished his T20I career with 4231 runs in 159 T20Is. Rohit announced his retirement from T20I cricket after leading India to a title win the 2024 World Cup.
