Maruti Suzuki India has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Tamil Nadu government to automate driving testing tracks across the state, in a move aimed at improving transparency, efficiency, and uniformity in the driving licence testing process.
The collaboration, part of Maruti Suzuki’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, seeks to leverage advanced technology to make driving tests more objective and reliable, ultimately contributing to safer roads across Tamil Nadu.
The agreement was signed at the State Secretariat in the presence of Transport Minister S S Sivasankar, along with senior officials including Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, Transport and Road Safety Commissioner R Gajalakshmi, Maruti Suzuki India Senior Vice-President and Head (CSR) Tarun Agarwal, and General Manager (Road Safety) R Kalyan Sunder.
In the first phase of the project, 10 Regional Transport Office (RTO) locations have been identified for automation during the 2025-26 financial year. The initiative follows an announcement made by the Transport Minister during the 2023-24 Assembly session, outlining plans to automate driving test tracks across 20 RTOs in the state.
Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “We are honoured to partner with the Government of Tamil Nadu to introduce Automated Driving Test Tracks in the state. Automated driving license testing ensures a comprehensive, rigorous, transparent, and efficient assessment of a driver’s skill and knowledge. Only qualified and skilled applicants receive a driving license through this process.”
He further added, “We believe that disciplined driving by these skilled drivers can contribute to safer roads. This initiative is a humble contribution by Maruti Suzuki to strengthen road safety in Tamil Nadu.” According to the state government, the automation of testing tracks is expected to enhance the integrity of the licensing process and promote higher road safety standards by ensuring that only competent drivers receive licences.
