Shooter Jaspal Rana was also called the golden boy of the country. He died due to heart attack. Heart attack cases are increasing rapidly in India. Jaspal Rana was only 49 years old and he left the world at an early age. People easily believe in many misconceptions related to heart diseases. One of these is that if someone gets a stent inserted once, can he have a heart attack again? TV9 had a special conversation with Professor Dr. Vivek Gupta, a cardiologist from the renowned Indrapastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi.

Experts say that carelessness can be fatal for patients who have had stents installed after heart attack and angioplasty. The expert also told what things these people should take special care of in their lifestyle. Let us tell you.

how does the heart work

Doctor Vivek says that the heart is a pump of muscles which supplies oxygenated blood to the entire body. It requires three important arteries to function. When cholesterol starts burning in crystal form in these arteries, it starts having a bad effect on blood flow. Due to accumulation of cholesterol, blood clotting starts and suddenly the blood flow stops by 90 to 100 percent. Due to this heart attack occurs.

According to Dr. Vivek, after stent installation, patients get cured in 99 percent of the cases. But in some rare cases, thrombosis i.e. blood clot can form inside the stent also. If this is ignored, the situation can even become fatal.

Can a heart attack occur even after a stent?

Doctor Gupta says that even after angioplasty, if carelessness is taken then an attack may occur. Special care should be taken in the first 30 days. Know what mistakes people make?

Mistake of not taking medicine on time- Not taking medicines like aspirin and clopidogrel after heart surgery or stent insertion can be costly. These medicines should be taken on time as per the doctor’s advice.

Exercising excessively- Experts say that after a heart attack, the pumping capacity of the heart becomes weak. After stent insertion, one should not do heavy or uncontrolled exercise even by mistake. Such people should take morning walk under supervision and within limits. Gym and heavy exercises should not be done even by mistake.

Food related mistakes- Some people make the mistake of eating too much or too much food every day. Dr. Vivek says that one should eat as much bread as one is hungry. Junk food, fried and processed foods should be avoided.

Avoid bad habits- It is very important to avoid bad habits like smoking, alcohol and consumption of pan masala.

Lack of sleep and stress- Getting adequate sleep (7-8 hours) and reducing mental stress is important for heart health. Yoga and meditation may be helpful.

Regular check-up Keep getting your blood sugar and blood pressure checked regularly, especially for diabetic and high blood pressure patients.
