Indigenous Tejas Mk1A
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has taken strict action against an important supplier company associated with the indigenous fighter aircraft LCA Tejas Mk1A program. Hyderabad-based Tec Aero Devices has been accused of allegedly submitting fake test reports and not following quality standards. After investigating the matter, HAL has lodged an FIR against the company and blacklisted it.
Was supplying for Tejas Mk1A project
According to the information, Tech Aero Devices was working with HAL on the Tejas Mk1A program since March 2022. HAL’s Aircraft Division, Bengaluru had issued a total of 18 purchase orders to the company between March 2022 and September 2023. These orders were related to the supply of various components, such as nuts, bolts and washers used in the Tejas fighter aircraft.
Errors revealed in quality check
According to sources, doubts arose over the documents and test reports submitted by the company during HAL’s regular and stringent quality check process. After this a thorough investigation of the case was started. During the investigation, alleged irregularities came to light in some reports and documents, after which HAL decided to take action.
FIR lodged, company debarred
After completion of the investigation, HAL lodged an FIR against Tech Aero Devices. It is being told that this action has been taken under the provisions of the contract. According to the terms of the contract, if additional expenses are incurred due to negligence or wrong information of any supplier, then it can be compensated from the concerned company.
HAL has also excluded the company from all future orders and projects. This step is being considered important towards ensuring quality and transparency in defense production.
Tejas program will not be affected
However, sources say that this action will not have any impact on the progress of the LCA Tejas Mk1A program. HAL’s supplier network is quite large and the company does not depend on any one vendor. If needed, supply of components can be ensured from other authorized suppliers.
Defense sector experts believe that this action of HAL gives a clear message that there will be no compromise on quality and safety standards in the country’s strategic defense programs. Tejas Mk1A is an important project for the Indian Air Force and all the companies involved in its construction will have to strictly follow the set standards.
