There is discussion about Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s possible debut for the senior team on the T20I tour of Ireland and England. Suryavanshi has already broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record by being selected in India’s T20I team and is currently busy with the Tri-Nation series with the India A team in Sri Lanka.
Amid talks of his senior India debut in Ireland later this month, the ongoing community unrest there poses a threat.
The Inter-Provincial T20 Festival in Lisbon has already been canceled while Cricket Ireland said in a statement that a decision on Sunday’s Irish Senior Cup and National Cup matches would be taken in the next 48 hours. If the situation does not improve then the Ireland vs India series may also be in danger. Cricket Ireland said in a statement: ‘Cricket Ireland is monitoring the situation in the areas where there is currently community unrest and will make a decision in the next 48 hours regarding the Irish Senior Cup and National Cup matches taking place this Sunday.’
The statement further said, ‘We are in constant dialogue with the relevant authorities and our provincial unions. The safety of players, coaches, match officials and supporters is of utmost importance to us. Updates will be provided as soon as more information is available. A report has claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also monitoring the situation in Ireland. If the situation does not improve, the board may decide to shift the match from Belfast to another venue.
It is noteworthy that after playing some explosive innings for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 that ended last month, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has appeared in a different style in one-day cricket for India A. Against Afghanistan A on Thursday, Suryavanshi scored 44 runs in 22 balls before getting out, but did not hit a single six. In the IPL, where the 15-year-old player mostly scored runs by hitting sixes, his game against Afghanistan looked quite controlled, due to which he was able to play shots with the help of the ground. Despite the tremendous efforts of Suryavanshi, India A had to face defeat against Afghanistan A in this match.
