Delhi Pollution: Delhi’s air becomes poisonous before Diwali, GRAP 1 implemented, what restrictions will be imposed? , Delhi Air Pollution Caqm Imposed Grap 1 Curbs As Air Quality Dips

GRAP-1 imposed in Delhi: In view of the increasing level of air pollution in Delhi, GRAP 1 has been imposed. AQI 211 was recorded on Tuesday. Construction activities have been banned in Delhi-NCR.

Delhi Air Pollution: Even before Diwali, the air in Delhi and NCR has become poisonous. Due to increasing air pollution, CAQM (Central Air Quality Management) has implemented GRAP 1. Delhi’s AQI (Air Quality Index) was recorded at 211 on Tuesday. After this, GRAP restrictions have been implemented to reduce air pollution.

This step has been taken amid forecasts from IMD and IITM. It has been said that the pollution level in Delhi is likely to remain in the same category in the coming days. The decision to implement GRAP-1 was taken by the sub-committee of GRAP. The Committee has directed all concerned agencies in NCR to immediately implement, monitor and review the Phase-I measures to prevent further deterioration in air quality.

What is GRAP?

AQI 211 means the air quality is poor. This poses a health risk to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and the chronically ill. GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) is a set of regulatory actions to be activated according to the level of pollution to reduce the deterioration in air quality. As air quality deteriorates the next phases of GRAP are implemented. With this the restrictions keep increasing.

GRAP 1 is the first step. This includes measures such as restrictions on construction activities, increased monitoring of industrial emissions and public advisories to reduce external exposure.

According to GRAP there are 5 categories of air quality

  • Good- AQI-0-50
  • Satisfactory- AQI- 51-100
  • Moderate- AQI-101-200
  • Poor- AQI- 201-300
  • Very bad – 301-400
