Bonus out on Diwali, now these employees are in trouble

diwali bonus

When the festive season is in full swing across the country, the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have given a special gift to their employees. This Diwali, bonus has been announced to bring smile on the faces of government employees. This decision will not only provide financial relief but will also double their festival happiness.

Bonus up to Rs 6,900 will be available in UP

Uttar Pradesh government has announced bonus for about 14.82 lakh employees of the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government has set a budget of ₹1,022 crore. Employees up to Level-8 of the pay matrix will get a maximum bonus of ₹ 6,908 on the basis of 30 days’ salary.

Rajasthan government is also not behind

Rajasthan government has also made a big announcement before Diwali. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has announced to give ad-hoc bonus to about 6 lakh employees of the state. This bonus will be applicable for employees up to pay level L-12 or ₹4,800 grade pay. Eligible employees will get a maximum bonus of up to ₹ 6,774. Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad employees will also be included in this.

Will there be tax on bonus?

Many people think that bonuses received on festivals are tax-free. But the reality is that cash bonus is considered a part of salary, and is subject to income tax in the same way as other salaries. That is, if an employee gets a bonus of ₹ 30,000, then this amount will be added to his annual income and tax will have to be paid accordingly.

It is clear from these announcements that the state governments want to honor their employees on this festival occasion. Bonus is not just money, but a symbol of “thanks” and encouragement from the government. This increases the morale of the employees and also enhances the beauty of the festival.
