Travel between Lucknow-Kanpur now takes just 50 minutes! UP government is going to start work on Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail Corridor project. This 67 km long rail project will make travel fast, convenient and safe. The central government will provide funding.
The Uttar Pradesh government is now preparing to make the travel between the capital Lucknow and the industrial city Kanpur very easy and fast. While at present the journey between the two cities takes two to three hours, after the commencement of the proposed Rapid Rail Corridor this time will reduce to only 50 minutes. This project is being considered a big step towards developing a fast, safe and modern transportation system in the state.
Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail Corridor work will start soon
The Uttar Pradesh Housing Department has directed Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Unnao-Shuklaganj Development Authority to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Rapid Rail Corridor. The report will evaluate the economic feasibility of the project, total cost, estimated daily passenger numbers, potential revenue and land acquisition requirements. According to officials, the DPR will decide how practical the project is and how much land will be required to be acquired.

Rapid rail corridor will be 67 kilometers long
Under the plan, this rapid rail corridor will be built from Nayaganj in Kanpur to Amausi in Lucknow. Both the places are already connected to the metro network, which will provide better connectivity to the passengers. The entire project will be 67 kilometers long and after its commencement, there will be a major change in the transportation scenario of the area. This will not only make travel easier and faster, but will also increase regional development and employment opportunities.
Six lane expressway will also be built parallel
Along with the rapid rail, a 63 km long six-lane expressway is also being built between Lucknow and Kanpur. This expressway will reach Azad Marg in Kanpur via Bani, Kantha and Amarsus. Upon completion of this project, the traffic pressure between the two cities will be reduced and the passengers will get a faster and easier travel option.
Central government will provide funding, private company will prepare DPR
The rapid rail project is expected to receive financial support from the central government. However, the formal start of the work will take place only after receiving in-principle approval from the state government. After this, a private consultancy firm will be given the responsibility of preparing the DPR through the tender process. With the implementation of the project, not only will the travel time in the state be reduced, but regional connectivity and economic development will also get a new impetus.
Lucknow-Kanpur Rapid Rail Corridor is being considered as one of the most ambitious projects of the state. This is not just a transport project but can prove to be a big step towards the industrial and urban development of the state. With this confluence of speed, security and modernity, Uttar Pradesh will move towards becoming one of the most advanced states of the country.
