Tata Motors is gearing up to launch on June 30. The launch will represent another major step in the company’s expanding EV strategy, with the Sierra becoming the seventh model in Tata’s electric vehicle portfolio. Only the Altroz and Safari do not currently have an electric counterpart. However, the Safari EV will come, making the Altroz the only model in Tata’s lineup without an electric version.
Positioned between Curvv EV and Harrier EV
The Sierra EV is expected to occupy a strategic position in Tata’s electric SUV lineup, sitting above the Curvv EV and below the Harrier EV. This placement will allow Tata to target buyers looking for a more spacious and premium electric SUV while maintaining a price point below its flagship offering.
Multiple battery and drivetrain choices likely
Tata is expected to offer the Sierra EV with more than one battery pack option. The SUV could share the Harrier EV’s battery technology, with capacities ranging between 65kWh and 75kWh depending on the variant.
Rear-wheel-drive versions are anticipated to form the core of the lineup, while a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration could be reserved for higher-spec models. If introduced, the Sierra EV would become one of the few electric SUVs in its segment to offer AWD capability, enhancing both performance and all-weather usability.
The larger battery-equipped variants are expected to deliver a driving range exceeding 500km under real-world conditions. Fast-charging support and features such as vehicle-to-load functionality could also form part of the package.
Distinct EV styling
While the Sierra EV will share its overall silhouette with the ICE-powered Sierra, several design elements will help distinguish the electric model. A closed-off front fascia, redesigned bumper treatment and EV-specific detailing are expected to define the front-end appearance.
The SUV will also feature contemporary styling cues including full-width LED lighting elements, flush-fitting door handles and aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels. Tata’s familiar ‘.ev’ branding is likely to be incorporated throughout the exterior.
Despite the modern touches, the design will continue to draw inspiration from the original Sierra, retaining its upright stance and strong visual presence.
Feature-rich cabin expected
Inside, the Sierra EV is expected to adopt a technology-focused cabin layout. Top-end variants could feature a three-screen setup consisting of a digital driver’s display, a large central infotainment system and a dedicated screen for the front passenger.
Other expected highlights include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, connected-car technology, a premium audio system, ambient lighting and multiple drive modes. Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera and a head-up display are also likely to be available on higher trims.
Expected pricing and rivals
Tata Motors is expected to position the Sierra EV in the Rs 18 lakh to Rs 25 lakh price bracket, creating some overlap with both the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. The company could also explore flexible ownership options, including its Battery-as-a-Service programme, to make the SUV more accessible to buyers.
Once launched, the Sierra EV will enter a rapidly growing electric SUV segment and take on rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor and the Maruti e Vitara.
