Maruti Suzuki will showcase its all-new BEV (battery electric vehicle) at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo, which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from February 4 to 9. Codenamed YMC, the upcoming Maruti EV will be a three-row MPV targeting the sub Rs 20 lakh segment. At this price point, it will directly take on the Kia Carens Clavis EV, which is currently priced between Rs 18.04 lakh – Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Interestingly, the Maruti YMC will be the smallest and most affordable 7-seater EV in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the MPV under its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental programme to reduce the initial ownership cost. Toyota Kirloskar Motor could also launch its own derivative of Maruti’s EV later next year.
Sharing Powertrain With eVitara
The official powertrain details, features and variants of the new Maruti electric MPV will be revealed closer to its launch. The model is expected to be offered with eVitara’s 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options. Both battery packs could be paired with a front-mounted motor and a FWD (front-wheel drive) configuration. The new Mauti 7-seater EV is likely to offer a driving range of over 500km on a full charge.
Design Highlights
Spy images suggest that the Maruti YMC will feature a boxy, upright stance with an aggressive-looking front fascia. The MPV will get a closed-off grille, newly-designed headlamps and LED fog lamps.
The side profile could be adorned by aero-optimized alloy wheels, large windows, pronounced wheel arches, conventional pull-type door handles and shark-fin antenna. At the back, the new Maruti electric MPV might sport a raked rear windshield, sporty bumper, roof rails, integrated roof spoiler and Ertiga-inspired LED taillamps.
Interior & Features
The interior layout and features could be heavily inspired by the Maruti eVitara. The upcoming Maruti YMC could be offered with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, Level 2 ADAS and more.
Platform Details
Similar to the eVitara, the new Maruti electric MPV will be designed on Heartect-e platform, a derivative of the Heartect architecture. It features a long wheelbase and large diameter wheels, which ensures optimize cabin space. The architecture has an under-floor batter integration between the front and rear axles. It uses Ultra-High-Tensile Steel (UHSS) and Advanced High-Tensile Steel (AHSS), enhancing structural strength.
