Drugs threat to health
The recent research published by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of Delhi has pointed to a big danger. According to this report published in Indian Journal of Psychiatry, 2025, people in the country are using many types of drugs to increase their strength during sexual activity. These drugs are spoiling health. They are also increasing the risk of mental illnesses including HIV, hepatitis. AIIMS doctors have named this thing Chemsex. It is made of two words Chemical and sex. That is, taking a drug dose before making a physical relationship. Research has revealed that now people in India, like abroad, are following this trend.
National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC) of AIIMS Delhi has done this research. AIIMS NDDT CAdditional Professor Dr. Siddharth Sarkar, Professor Dr. Anju Dhawan, and Senior Resident Dr. Varsha has made this study. The title of the report is An Online Study to Undrstand Chemsex in India. This survey was conducted through social media and it included those over 18 years of age who have had sex at least once. This is the first type of online study of AIIMS Delhi. It has been told about the pattern of taking drugs and dangers related to it before making physical relations.
People taking such drugs to increase strength
Additional Professor in AIIMS Delhi National Drug Dependence Treatment Center Dr. Siddharth Sarkar In a conversation with TV9, it was an online survey study. It was revealed that people are taking drugs like Methamphetamine (Crystal Method or ‘Ice) during sexual activity. The practice of taking them has increased in the youth and men who have sex with other men.
Dr. Siddharth Sarkar said that 136 people were included in this online survey. All these people were victims of drug addiction. Of these, 75 percent were male and 25 percent were LGBTQ+ from the community. Out of these 136, 46 people said that they use drugs and medicines during sexual activity. Most of these are used to Methamphetamine (Crystal Method or ‘Ice’). There were also 21 out of 136 people who used to take drugs from IV drip during sexual activity and 7 of them have also been found HIV positive.
Research has revealed that sex with drugs is common among those whose sex partners were more. Who had a collective relationship (secret sex). Some of these people became HIV infected and also victims of sexually transmitted diseases.

Why people are resorting to drugs to increase sexual activity?

Dr. Kishore says that this research of AIIMS is presenting a dangerous picture of changing sexual and addiction in India. It is necessary that steps should be taken to control these things. Because according to research, this trend can increase HIV cases. The virus which is being better controlled in India can become a hurdle in its prevention.

HIV and other other sexual illnesses are mainly spread by unruly sexual relations. HIV infection in these is quite dangerous. Increasing use of drugs can cause increase in HIV cases.
What to do to control this problem?
It is necessary to control this problem. For Separate de -addiction and sexual health clinics should be created for the LGBTQ+ community. The most important thing is that Codeword -based monitoring system should be implemented on social media and dating apps. The scope of mental health and sex education should be increased among the youth. Make people aware of the loss of drugs and at the same time there is a need to make them aware about health.
