On this day, sisters pray for their brother’s long life and apply tilak on his brother’s forehead. Every year two festivals of brothers and sisters are celebrated – Rakshabandhan and Bhai Dooj. However, the reason behind celebrating both these festivals is the same – sisters’ wish for their brother’s long life and brother’s promise to protect his sister. When is Bhai Dooj 2025?
In 2025, Rakshabandhan was celebrated on 9th August, while Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on Thursday, 23rd October. Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, which will start on 22nd October at 8:16 pm and this date will end on 23rd October 2025 at 10:46 pm.

How are Bhai Dooj and Rakshabandhan different?
Difference between Bhai Dooj and Rakshabandhan
Bhai Dooj and Rakshabandhan both are festivals of the sacred relationship between brothers and sisters, but the main difference is that in Rakshabandhan, sisters tie Rakhi on the brother’s wrist and the brother promises protection. Whereas during Bhai Dooj, the sister applies tilak on the brother’s forehead, offers him food and wishes for the brother’s long life. Rakshabandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of Shravan month. Whereas Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the second day of Kartik month as the end of Diwali festival.
